We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter
Habitat for Humanity Australia is part of Habitat for Humanity, an international not-for-profit that originated in Georgia, United States in 1976. Habitat for Humanity began as a grassroots effort driven by the vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The housing organisation has since grown to become a leading global non-profit working in more than 70 countries. Since then it has been our mission to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
We provide a hand up, not a hand out
We don’t give hand-outs; we give people hand-ups by building homes in partnership with families in Australia and overseas. We work with vulnerable families to build new homes, transforming lives, and support the development of housing finance and construction markets so that more working poor families can access affordable and safe housing.
We do more than just build house
We not only build homes, we build communities. We address water supply and sanitation issues and in some communities provide health and educational services – like teaching financial literacy and livelihood training. This is vital knowledge communities can share with others. It’s a ‘pay it forward’ model and the beginning of generational change.
